Honda is set to reveal their follow-up to the FCX Clarity, their hydrogen fuel cell car. The FCV will be revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show in October. The FCV is to go on sale in Japan as early as last March, with sales in the US and UK to start in 2020. Honda’s new hydrogen powered car was last seen as a concept at the LA Auto Show in 2017.
Better Range Than Electric
The hydrogen power source for the FCV is revolutionary technology set to take the world by storm, the FCV is said to have 134BHP, similar to the Clarity however the FCV’s power pack is 33% smaller than that of the Clarity. Honda says the range of the FCV has also increased over its predecessor to 435 miles. It’s also said to be able to be refuelled in 3-5 minutes.
It’s Just An Ordinary Car
What does that sound like to me, hmm oh yeah an ordinary car. This is why I see the hydrogen-powered car as being the future over the likes of the Tesla and other electric cars. It has the range of a normal car it has the power of a normal car, yet it is cleaner than a normal car as the only thing that comes out of the back is water.
Coming Soon To A Filling Station Near You
Hydrogen filling stations are already commonplace in Japan and are starting to pop up around America, Honda recently opened their own filling station in the UK in Swindon, in hopes to kick-start the hydrogen infrastructure here. I really hope the hydrogen revolution truly takes hold, as they are superior to electric cars, and with the likes of Honda, Toyota and Hyundai all working on hydrogen cars there is hope for the future, Yoshikazu Tanaka, chief engineer for Toyota’s hydrogen effort the Mirai gave an estimate of 10 to 20 years before hydrogen cars are commonplace on the roads.
